Montparnasse Cemetery

During our spring trip to Paris we wandered into the enormous Montparnasse Cemetery. A calming outdoor space filled with intricate sepulchers, I was delighted to discover that Guy de Maupassant was buried there, along with Simone de Beauvoir, Margueritte Duras, and Camille Saint-Saëns. It's not as famous as Père Lachaise, but it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the 14th.

Sunset Hike in Île d'Oléron

During our honeymoon we spent a few days in Île d'Oléron. On our first day our dear friend Anne took us on a magical two-hour sunset hike along one of their favorite beaches. This one was rather desolate and the petrified forest nearby lent a haunting mood.

I was completely fascinated with the vibrant algae and moss growing all over the place.

The purple and muddy green colors layered upon each other was riveting.

 Algae imprints in the sand.

These dried sand "hills" look like an aerial shot of a desert mountain range huh?
